I had been cleaning up all day because my mom was coming today. Meanwhile, Alice was at school and I sent Connor out to get some groceries. Finally I cleaned everything but still tried to find stuff to do, on edge and nervous for my mom to come. After an hour of distracting myself, I heard a knock on the door. I jumped up to get it and there was my mom, wearing her typical California tight dress, heels, and sunglasses. Her makeup was all done and her dyed-blonde hair in thick curls. She put her bags on the floor and gave me her jacket. "Hello, dear." She gave me a short hug and kissed my cheek. I just smiled and quickly put her stuff in the guest room.

I got home a few minutes later with hands full of groceries. I set them on the table in the kitchen then noticed someone sitting on the couch. I walked out and saw Sage's mother. "Hello. I'm Connor." I said, holding out my hand.

I came back down to find Connor. My mom ignored his hand and stood up to give him a hug. "It's nice to finally meet you." She said before sitting back down. "So I hear you're engaged to my little girl?"

I nodded. "Yeah." I said softly. "She's pretty special to me." I said, smiling over at Sage.

I smiled softly. My mom just held out her hand to me. "Can I see the ring?" She asked. I took it off my finger and gave it to her as I went to put some cold groceries away.

I bit my lip, waiting for her response on the ring. I knew it wasn't anything to fancy and Sage had come from a much more upscale family, than I.

I came back and took the ring. "It's lovely, but the cameras won't catch the sparkle. Maybe you could get it reappraised for something a bit bigger like this..." She said, pulling out her phone. I shook my head. "Mom, I like this one. It's perfect." I assured to her.

He went back to the kitchen and I gave my mom a look. "Be nice. He isn't from California like us." I whispered. She just gave me an innocent looking face back and I rolled my eyes. She continued to tell me about her flight.

She let out a long sigh. "It felt like forever. I hate traveling alone." She said dramatically. I tried not to roll my eyes. "So where are you from?" She asked him.

I swallowed. "A small town in Vermont." I told her. It get's even colder than it is here." I tried to joke lightly.

"Well maybe I can go out shopping later. And get some things for you, Sage. Marcus used to always chose your outfits but since he's gone you need some clothes." She said. "I can handle it mom. But I'll go with you if you want." I said, running my fingers through my hair.
