I sighed. "I wanted to Lucas. Everyday, but I couldn't risk your mission. I was worried if I tried it would put you.. or Iris in danger.." I bit my lip and didn't say anything for a while. "I missed you everyday Lucas." i looked down at Iris. "She's a constant reminder of you. She has your eyes." I said quietly.

I looked back down at her. "I would have been here... If I had known..." I said softly, biting my lip hard. I felt like a terrible person; I had been a father and didn't even know. I promised I would never do that, and then I did.

"I always thought she looked like you." I admitted. I let him sit there for a while longer before speaking again. "Was the mission successful? Were you safe?" I asked.

"They're still working on it, but I think it will be. I got released four months ago for medical reasons. I've been in the hospital recovering." I explained, not wanting to get into details.

I just nodded. I was pretty self conscious about the leg thing. "Look... I don't think I'm ready for a relationship right now..." I said softly. As much as I wanted one, I couldn't support her while recovering and not having a job. It wasn't what she deserved. "But I want to be part of Iris' life."

I bit my lip hard, not sure how to react, but then Iris started to whimper and cry. The cry quickly turned into screams. I held out my arms. "That's usually the I'm hungry cry." I said. I took her and started to unbutton my flannel then paused. "Sorry. Do you mind? I can get a bottle if you want." I said.

I nodded slowly not really understanding. "Why not?" I asked. "Haven't we been apart long enough? Is there someone else?" I asked, the realization of the possibility hitting me hard.
