I had gotten off of work early to go with Rowan to this mayor luncheon thing. I didn't know what to expect- I'd never seen him in real life before. Would he recognize me? Saying I was anxious would be an understatement. I stood in front of Rowan's door, wearing a nice sports coat, dress shirt, and slacks. After knocking, I put my hands in my pockets and waited.

I took a step closer and closed the door so we were in our apartment. "Maybe we should just stay here." I said, giving her another long kiss. I didn't want to admit that I was nervous.

I gently pulled back but lightly kissed him on the nose. "We have to go. I'm expected to be there on behalf of my father. And you deserve this." I said.

I nodded. "I used to babysit his daughter Lucy." I told him. "They've always been nice to me so I don't entirely know what to expect.

"Well why don't you let me do most of the talking. You can talk to him a little bit, but let's keep it casual until we know for sure if he's your father." I said.

I squeezed his hand. "Lucas you said so yourself that you don't know if you can trust everything your mother says." I said softly. "I think we need to feel the situation out first."

I sighed. "You're right. I'm sorry." I said. The luncheon was just across the street, so we got there pretty quickly. I took a deep breath and took in our surroundings. "Lets find our table." I said.

I kept my eyes out for him, but didn't see him right away. First I saw his wife and 3 daughters, mingling with people at different tables. I bit my lip hard as we sat down. All of a sudden, I saw a hand come down on Rowan's shoulder. I turned around and he was right there. "Well if it isn't Rowan Hayes. It's good to see you again, dear. How's your father?" He asked. I just stood stunned- I didn't feel prepared so I guess it was just best to be quiet.

I stood and gave him a light hug. "Mayor Fisher. It's good to see you too. My father is doing well. He's sorry he couldn't be here tonight. I motioned to Lucas. "Mayer Fisher this is my boyfriend, Lucas Shae." I said, and waited to see what his response to the name would be.

I saw him hesitate and pull at his collar. It was only for a second, but he did it. Then he put his fake smile back on. "It's good to meet you." He said. He reached out his hand for me to shake and I grabbed it. It was the weirdest thing. Then he smiled and said goodbye before walking away to talk to other people.
