When I turned Finn wasn't behind me. I quickly found him in the crowd. "Sorry. I assumed you had followed me." I apologized for leaving him.

"Sure. I lead him over to the bar and ordered a gingerale in a champagne glass. That way people thought that I was drinking but I wasn't actually.

I didn't get anything, just because I didn't drink fancy drinks. Usually, I just had a beer, but I don't think that's acceptable here. "Why do you do that?" I asked, motioning to the ginger ale.

"Oh. I'm really not a big drinker and if I do I get tipsy really easily. So this way it looks like I'm drinking some fancy champagne but I'm really just having a soda." I told him.

"This suit is making me kind of hot, so I think I'm going to sit down for a bit. But I'll find you soon." I promised. I kissed her head and went to sit at a table. Nothing really interesting happened until I saw her dad check his phone and leave the room. Moments later, another man left in the same direction. That had to mean something. I quietly followed them and went into the room next to them. I put something on the wall so I could hear and listened. It was mostly murmurs, but I heard they were going to meet in the warehouse basement at midnight. I needed to get in there; I don't know how I would get Rowan to bring me down there but I needed to. I waited until I heard them leave then went out to find Rowan.

While Finn took a break, I mingled through the crowed, saying hello to old clients and giving new clients my best speeches. At one point Mr. Holt got me alone. Technically he was an old ex of mine. "I'm busy Mr. Holt." I said, trying to avoid him. "No need to be so formal Rowan. You know you can call me Carter." I turned to him. "Please go away Carter." I said firmly. "I'm here with Finn and I really don't want anything to do with you." I said backing up. We were in the back corner of the ballroom so nobody noticed us. He came closer. "Come on. That boy lived on a farm. I'm rich. I can make you happy." He said taking my hand and kissing it. I jerked my hand away. "Carter please leave." I said anxiously. That was when he pushed me up against the back wall and tried to kiss me. I let out a short shriek but the music and talking was to loud for anyone to hear me. He put his hand over my mouth and kissed my neck while running his hand up my thigh. I struggled under him but couldn't get away.

Once I got back, I scanned the room for Rowan. I couldn't find her- that was strange, she wouldn't leave. I looked around more until I saw that weird guy in the corner. I don't know why it caused me to worry, but I frantically walked over there and found him with her. Rage filled me and I turned him around, punching him in the face. He put his hand to his nose and screamed a curse word, causing the whole hall to silence. "Get away from me!" He roared. He tried to punch me, but I easily dodged it and went towards Rowan. "Are you ok?" I asked. Security came and grabbed me by the arms. I frowned, knowing better than to fight.

I nodded, quickly wiping tears from my eyes. "It's okay. I told the security men. "But if you would, please escort Mr. Holt out of the building." They nodded, letting go of Finn and moving to Carter. My dad came running over. "What did you do he huffed at Finn. "Daddy, let's not make more of a scene." i said in a hushed tone. "Mr. Holt was not being very proper and Finn took care of it. Now go turn up the music and mingle again." I told him in a whisper. He glared at Finn then walked off. I took Finn's hand and silently led him outside. I didn't say award until we were back at my place and the door was shut. I kicked off my shoes, fell to the ground and sobbed.

My heart broke when I heard her cries. I sat next to her and gently wiped her face with my sleeve. "You're ok now." I whispered, putting my arms around her.

I leaned into him, unable to stop myself from crying. "I'm so sorry... I- I tried to stop him.." I sobbed.

"You don't have to be sorry... I know you tried your best." I whispered. "How about you go take a shower, then change into comfy clothes. That will help you feel better." I said, carefully helping her unzip her dress.

I nodded and went upstairs. I took a long shower I looked down on my leg and could see the bruises already beginning to bloom under the tattoo on my thigh. I got out and changed into comfy shorts and a snuggly hoodie before going back downstairs.
