Today was the big day. I was going to propose to Rowan. I was nervous to say the least- I had no idea what she was going to say. On one hand I loved her, but on the other we haven't been together for long and hadn't really talked about marriage yet. But I had to do it. I took all of work off to get everything ready, then planned with Rowan to get drinks after work. After dropping off Iris at her dad's, I got dressed in nice black slacks, a maroon shirt, nice tie and a sports coat. I got ready in the guest room so she had room to change and knocked on the bedroom door. "Ready to go?" I asked her, double checking the ring was in my pocket.

"And wow..." Butterflies filled my stomach again. "You look gorgeous." I took her hand. "Are you ready to go? I'm bringing you to a new place and it's only a couple blocks away so I figured we could walk."

"You'll see." I said with a smile. We walked to the sleek new building and I brought her onto the elevator. "I kind of lied about bringing you too a bar. We can have drinks, but I have a surprise for you." I said as we rode up.

I chuckled. "Can't I just look nice for you?" I teased. One we made it to the top floor I lead her to a room that had Windows veiwing the whole city. Hanging from the ceiling at eye level were hundreds of squares of paper. I had asked the kids she worked with at the charity to write notes and draw pictures. Others were notes from friends, family and of course me. There were also pictures of her with her kids she works with or me and Iris. "I know you've been down lately, so I wanted to remind you how much you're loved." I said, pouring her a glass of champagne. To one of the strings in the corner I tied the ring, but I figured she'd want to look around first and I'd have time.

Tears. Immediate tears. I put my hand to my mouth in awe. "Lucas... how did you do all of this?" I asked softly as I moved from note to note.

"I got a lot of help from the kids at your work. They definetly didn't have a hard time coming up with good things about you." I said, putting my arm around her waist. I looked at one and chuckled. "I like this one." I said. A little kid wrote, 'Ms. Rowan you look ravishing.' And every word was spelled wrong. I was just trying to distract myself from the nerves.

I smiled and slowly moved through each card until I got to the corner and my shoulder bumped one of the notes. I turned to look at it but it wasn't a note or a picture. I was staring a sparkling ring. I gasped and looked up at Lucas.

I nervously took the ring. "Rowan, this room can't even express how much I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and Iris." I said. I slowly got down on my knee- it was hard with my prosthetic but I had practiced for hours. "Rowan Hayes, will you marry me?" I asked, holding up the ring.
