Harley  So the pain in my back still hadn't gone away. I had been babying it for almost a week and my practices were little to nothing. I finally went down to the nurses just to get some pain meds... but no. You tell them you have back pain from falling on your back and the just about freak out. I laid on my back for a good ten minutes as they pin pointed where the pain was and how severe it was. When I finally sat up the told me it was a bad bruising all the way to the bone. I needed to ice it and should really take a few days off of all sports and exercising. Okay I wasn't stupid. They went to go and get me some pain meds and I sat and waited. |

I walked in to the infirmary. I usually didn't go to doctors, but my shoulder was getting worse and worse. I could barely move it today when I was practicing. I walked in and saw Harley right away. "Hey." I said. Forgetting why I was here, i took the seat next to her. "What's up?"

I looked up to see Carson and stiffly turned toward him. "My back has still been really bothering me and I haven't been able to practice as well as I want to because of it." I paused for a second as a look of concern flooded my face. "What are you doing here?" I asked.

I shrugged, then winced because of my shoulder. "It's just my shoulder. I've had problems with it most of my life, but it's been really sore lately. It's no big deal." the nurse gave me a look, but I just kept talking to Harley. "So are you gunna take a few days off or what?"

I felt bad as I watched him wince and wanted to make sure he was okay but he asked me more questions and I didnt want to be rude and ignore them. "They want me to, but I don't want to."

I nodded. "I get it. I'm not going to tell you that you should listen to the doctor, because I never would." I said. "Just do whatever you think is right. Maybe just do a lighter workout?"

I nodded. "I can't stop riding at least, Romeo would go crazy." I said. "Are you sure you're alright?" I asked, turning the concern back to him.

"Well, I don't know. That's why I came here." I teased. "But really, I think I'm fine. Do you wanna do something when I'm done? If you don't mind waiting." I stood up to walk to the counter and looked at her.

"Ok." I smiled and walked into one of the patient rooms with a nurse. She checked out my shoulder and stuff and I thought she seemed pretty nice. I would be fine. My feelings instantly changed when she told me about my shoulder issues. She said I needed to get surgery. Surgery would mean being out for at least 3/4s of the season. The longest I've been out was 1 week. I got some pain pills in the mean time. I walked back out after the 30 minute check-up? "Ready to go?" I asked Harley. I didn't want to tell her about my shoulder; she would obviously tell me i needed to get the surgery.

While Carson was getting checked out I had gotten my pain meds and thanked the nurse. I checked the time a few times. It had been almost a half hour. I knew what those types of things meant. It was more major then he had told me. I had gone through the same things a few times. When he came out I didn't bring it up... yet. I smiled gently and got up. "Ready." I answered softly.

"Wanna go catch a bite at the slice?" I asked, we stepped outside and started walking. "So how's riding?" I asked, trying to make her forget about the imfirmary.

"Sure." I said. "Um.. right now slightly painful." I said stretching and wincing slightly. "So are you going to go through with the surgery or what ever the nurse told you you needed?" I asked, keeping my voice soft, turning to look at him.

I didn't respond right away. We walked into the slice, very quiet because it was a school night. Sitting at a small both in the corner, I finally answered. "I don't know. I know I should but-" I sighed. "I would have to be out for most of the season. It would ruin my career." I said quietly.

I took his hand. "So could a shoulder injury, if you can't use it." I said softly. "I cant make you do anything and I understand but Baseball doesn't start until the spring. If you get the surgery. I would advise getting it soon. Then you get back in the game sooner. I don't think it would be a career ending move. It may put it on hold but it could be career saving in the sense that your shoulder is rather important in the sport of baseball." I said gently. I knew things like this were hard and I understood what he must be thinking.
