"Good." I said. I took a deep breath, knowing I had to tell her the truth. "I have been getting really, really bad pains in my leg lately. I don't know why but it's getting worse, especially when I lay really still like this." I admitted softly.

"Of course not Lucas." I paused and took a deep breath. "There's something I never told you. I was young when this happened and I kind of pushed it away... but I had a brother.." I whispered. I paused to let him react before continuing.

I shrugged. "It wasn't something that really came up.. I barely knew him. He and I had such a big age gap. I was four when he died." I told him.

"Well that's what I wanted to tell you about. "My brother was in the army. He lost both of his legs in an explosion and one thing I remember for some reason is sitting on my mother's lap while the doctor described this thing called phantom pain. It was when people still felt pain in an extremity even though it isn't there. Unfortunately, he got infection while in the hospital and just got sicker and sicker until he died." I explained.
