It had been busy and stressful, but overall I wash glad I returned because it kept me distracted. But I was ready for the weekend. I didn't really have anything planned, and I wasn't sure if Mason had to work. Things were still a little tense between us, but better. Thankfully, we didn't fight as much anymore. Now it was just like we didn't talk and it was kind of awkward. As I set my purse down, our little puppy Hunter bounded down the stairs. Still no one had claimed him. Kneeling down, I ran my hand over his soft fur as he wiggled happily. |

Mason
I got stuck at work, filling out paperwork, so I texted Campbell to let her know I'd be home late. Running late at work, be home in a little bit. No sooner had I pressed send did an emergency call come in. "Mason, we need you an this one!" someone called out. I jumped up and followed them out, being filled in as we drove to the scene. "Guy just robbed a convenient store. He's armed." He told me. When we got to the store an older man stood outside, clearly shone up. He told us what happened and pointed in the direction the man ran off. We got back in the cruiser and headed that way. About a mile away I pointed into the woods. "What in that tree?" Sure enough a man hid in the tree. I got out and slowly approached the tree. "Come on down. keep your hands exposed." I called up. I held my gun at the ready but it was hard to see what was going on in the dark. Before I could react I heard my partner. "look out!" He yelled, shooting up at the tree, but it was to late. I jumped out of the way but the bullet skimmed my side. I fell to the ground, grabbing my side. I kept one hand on my side and used the other to aim my gun at the tree. "He's already down." My partner said as he ran over to me. he started trying to look me over called in the situation. "I'm okay. It just skimmed my side." I slowly got up with his help. Together we made it back to the cruiser and he drove us to the hospital. they took me to the emergency room to stitch me up. "Call Campbell." i told my partner before going into the other room.

Campbell
I was looking for something to eat when my phone rang. Expecting it to be Mason saying he was on his way back, I picked it up. I was surprised to hear that it was one of his coworkers. "Campbell. Mason and I were out on a call and he got shot. We're at the hospital-" I hung up and immediately put my shoes back on, panicked. What it he died and thought I hated him? I mean, I wasn't exactly myself but i didn't hate him. I walked to the hospital, ignoring the pain of my high heels, because I knew it would be faster than sitting in traffic. Quickly I found his room and a nurse let me in. I let out a sigh of relief when I saw his parter and Mason sitting in the bed, conscious. "What happened?!" I asked, walking over to him. His partner gave me his chair and I sat down.

"Tyler didn't explain that it was just a flesh wound?" I looked up at my partner. "She hung up to fast." He said. I moved slowly and wrapped my arms carefully around Campbell. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. I'm okay. The bullet just hit the side of my abdomen." I explained.

I softly squeezed his hand and carefully moved away so he wouldn't get hurt. "Is that what you say or what the doctor says?" I asked. A gun shot wasn't no big deal, I thought it was a big deal.

I squeezed her hand back. "The doctor will tell you the same thing. It's not a simple scratch but it's not a shot to the chest either. I'm going to be fine." I promised.

The doctor came back moments later and he said the same thing. I let out a deep breath as he said Mason could go home. "I can drive home. Can you uh walk?" I asked.

I nodded and slowly stood up. I winced as I stood up straight but slowly limped to the door.

Hesitating, I walked over to him and carefully put his arm around me. I helped him walk and get into the car. The car ride was silent, but we quickly got home and I helped him get on the couch. "Do you need anything? Food? Meds?" Hunter almost jumped on him and I quickly caught him.

I slowly sat down, holding Hunter. Not really sure what to say, I gently petted Hunter and looked down.

"I'm sorry. I didn't want you to worry when I didn't come home. That's why I had Tyler call you. I didn't want to make you worry more." I apologized.

"It wasn't Tyler's fault.... I hung up before he could finish." I said. "I'm just.... Glad you're ok." I said quietly. I paused for a minute and then spoke up. "I didn't want you to die.... Thinking I hated you." I quickly wiped a tear.
