Campbell
Every since the accident, Mason and I had barely spoken. Things had been so tense between us. Whenever we talked, we ended up arguing. So I gave up talk. Instead of getting home from work as soon as I could to hang out with him, I stayed at work as late as possible. Once I got home, I would go lock myself in my office or the guest room, usually working on more stuff until I fell asleep. Today though, I went to work and my boss forced me to go home after half the day. Something about being all caught up with work and needing rest. When I got home, Mason wasn't there. I changed into sweats and a hoodie, then went downstairs to make some food.

Mason
I came inside after work with an armful of groceries and a dirty puppy in the other arm. The puppy squirmed and yipped in my arms as I tried to set the groceries down in the kitchen. groceries spilled out of the bags and cans rolled onto the counter. I sighed and just left it there. I would put it away later. I took the puppy and headed into the other room. I froze when I came face to face with Campbell. i looked down the puppy in my arms and bit my lip. "I can explain. I'm taking him to the shelter right after this. I found him running around, lost, in the grocery store parking lot. I didn't want him to get hit. Plus he needs a bath. I promise, bath, then to the shelter." I said, quickly explaining myself. I wasn't expecting her to be home.

"You can do whatever you want." I said softly, wandering back to the kitchen. I slowly put the things he dropped away, then up the stairs. I planned on laying down, but stopped by the bathroom door to see Mason with the puppy. I paused for a minute, watching them.

"Now what were you doing out in the street?" I asked the puppy as I scrubbed him down in the tub. "Who would leave you out there all by yourself?" I sighed, knowing there were plenty of people that would leave him out to die. I was just glad I was able to find him. I looked up and saw Campbell in the doorway. "Hi sweetie." I said softly. "I'm almost done."

I didn't say anything back, just grabbed the towel he forgot to get. The puppy must have gotten excited seeing me move because he barked happily and squirmed out of the tub, running towards me. I quickly caught him in the town and dried him off. I guess he wasn't that bad. I carried him back downstairs and into the living room. He was shivering, so I turned on the fire and laid down. He squrmied a little bit but eventually laid down as I flipped though the channels.

I changed out of my work clothes and came downstairs. I paused and watched Campbell with the puppy for a while before fully stepping into the room. "I should probably take him to the shelter now." I said softly.

I hesitated. "He's so scrawny. Maybe we should feed him." I suggested.

I nodded. "Well we don't have any dog food but I have some left over chicken from the other night. Do you think that would be okay?" I asked.

"Sure." I said softly. He was still shivering so I gently stroked his now soft fur.

I smiled softly. "Okay. Do you think I should heat it up?" I asked as I went into the kitchen.

Campbell
"Yeah. He's cold." I said. I went into the kitchen with him and got out a bowl, filling it with water. I set it down next to the puppy and he quickly lapped it up with his tongue. "Did you see anyone who could be his owner?"

I shook my head. "I asked around too and no one knew anything about him." I put down the plate of chicken and he swallowed it down. "the poor thing." I said with a sigh.

I let him finish his food. "Should we bring him?" I asked quietly. I wanted to say goodbye.

He didn't really invite me, but I followed him out to the car and buckled up. I wanted to make sure that the puppy was ok.
