C a r l i n Walking into the school building, Conor at my side, I admit, I was nervous, but not nervous enough to need him. Coming to America, my parents insisted I have help--as least for my first day. I sighed as I saw my classroom up ahead. Before I could speak Conor spoke up. "This is your mathematics class," he explained as if I didn't know, leading me up to it. "Yes, Connor, I know this," I said calmly, my Irish accent strong. I swallowed, realizing people might see me as different. Connor ignored my comment and walked into the classroom, holding the door for me. The classroom was vacant, no one was inside, not even the instructor. Desks lined the room in rows, a large one facing the opposite way in the front next to a large white board. "You can pick any seat. The instructor will arrive soon," he explained, noticing my confusion and nerves. My first American class. This was it. In Ireland, education was highly different. There were three types of schools: Primary, which was eight years, but on most occasions, students only attended for six. After Primary, Secondary is next with 3 years of Junior Cycle, the forth year being transition, and the fifth and sixth being the Senior Cycle. Secondary schools start at age twelve and this is similar to your high school in America, but has Collage-like traits as well. And third is Tertiary, which is our form of collage. Schools in Ireland were varied and this was odd, but I could adjust. I had too. "Connor, Im a bit nervous," I admitted, even though second ago I wasn't. He smiled softly. "I don't blame you. This is a bit intimidating." I nodded. "Yeah." "Well, I should go. You have ten minutes to get settled until the bell rings. All you really need to know is students will flow in her quickly and class will start. Afterwords, you have Science. You have fifteen minutes to head to the far building you were showed earlier this week. I'll come see you at lunch," he explained. I blinked. "How long?" "Four classes," he answered simply. I noticed his accent was fading. He was a Senior at a nearby school and had been here for three years. His family was still in Ireland, like mine, but he came here. He was the reason Id picked this school when I was told I had to come over. I was nervous, but glad Connor was here to help. I nodded. "Bye, Connor. And thank you." He smiled once more before leaving. I watched him leave before picking a seat in the third row. I opened my thick textbook and pre-read the page, hoping I wouldn't screw up today. I needed to make and impression.

i've heard that evil comes disguised L I K E T H E C I T Y O F A N G E L S ! i'm walking towards the light "Dude, you're going to hit somebody with your lax stick in the hallway," one of my friends warned me now as we walked along the busy hallways to get to my class now, "Well, they can move out of my way," I replied back as easy as it sounded. Not my fault I had practice after class, and I rather just head straight to the field rather than deal with having to sprint back to my dorm and gather my things in a rush. Besides, if anybody should be worried about running into my things, it would be my dufflebag. "Whatever man," he replied with a laugh as we strolled into the class room, shockingly enough, actually arriving on time for once in our life. The room had hardly filled up and I saw a new face there that I had never recognized. Walking over to her now, I dumped my stuff on the floor besides her and I slid into the desk next to her, "Way to take my spot, new girl," I commented with a grin as I took off my aviators and glanced over. But she was cute, so it was okay.

I ignored the voices and footsteps coming in the room, focusing on the word in front of me, trying to understand it. Math wasn't my favorite of subjects. My head snapped up when I heard something being dropped and a voice. I looked over to the guy as he spoke. I couldn't tell if her was a cocky jerk or if he was flirting. "Um," I started, looking for words. "Sorry." I guess. Despite his grin, I still couldn't be sure if he was being kind or not.

i've heard that evil comes disguised L I K E T H E C I T Y O F A N G E L S ! i'm walking towards the light "Um...Sorry," she managed to say. I caught wind of her accent though, there was no way she could hide that around here. The guys would be around her in two seconds flat, after all, foreign chicks were hot mainly because of the accent. I just laughed though,"You really sound it," I commented with a grin as I pulled my stuff out and threw it on my desk lazily, "I'm Kierran by the way."

"Carlin," I responded simply. "And, yes, I was going for that." I hadn't meant it to sound snarky, but I think it did. I wasn't good at making my first conversation with an American. Clearly. I sighed softly.

I couldn't help but to laugh,"I think you'll fit in just fine here, Carlin," I replied now, laughter in my voice. I began pulling my stuff out now but my eyes soon moved back to her, "So, Ireland, eh? What made you want to bless us with your company?"[/b

I raised a brow, looking over at him. Not only was I shocked that he knew I was from Ireland, but I think he didn't not like me. After my shock fled, I spoke. "It actually wasn't my choice. I was fine in Ireland," I answered, the second part softer then the first. My eyes fluttered back to my books for a second.

i've heard that evil comes disguised L I K E T H E C I T Y O F A N G E L S ! i'm walking towards the light It took her a moment to find her voice to speak, probably so shocked that a dumb American like me could pinpoint her accent, "Carlin, and yes I was going for that." she replied now, and boy, did she come off as snarly. I couldn't help but to laugh,"It actually wasn't my choice. I was fine in Ireland. I could have figured that much, but I didn't comment on it. Figured she thought I was a big enough jerk as it was "It's not that bad here, don't worry."

I looked at him, hoping he couldn't see through my blank look and see my sadness. "But its not home," I pointed out in a strong voice, but not loud.
