Miss America Stops By

Claire

I walked Missy out to the outdoor arena. She was wearing a simple purple halter with a matching lead rope. I was going to work with her by lunging her. Off to the side I had her tack to put on her when I was ready. I brought her to the middle then swapped the lead rope for my bright, light blue lunge line. I picked up my lunge whip and sent her a good distance away from me. I brought the whip near her hidequarters and she started to walk around me. After a minute or so I clucked and she started to jog. "Good girl." I praised silently. After about 5 minutes I halted her and dropped the whip. I walked over to her and patted her. Then I pushed her to turn around and picked up the whip again. I called for her to jog and she did.

I trotted Flash into the arena and saw Claire exercising whats-her-name.

Claire

I did this for another 5 minutes then put on her tack. I pulled the girth as if I was going to ride her but I wasn't. Then I slipped the bridle over her halter and put the reins over her head. I sent her away from me and told her to start up again. This time I would do 15 minutes on each side.

I asked Flash to pick up a canter and she nicely cantered around the ring before cutting accross the middle and doing a flying lead change.

Carolyn

"Watch it!" I snapped to Stormi as she cut into Missy's path. Missy spooked and reared up. "Easy girl." I said the soothing words to her. She calmed a little but was still tramatized

"Control your devil horse" I yelled to her as we did another lead change

Claire

"Don't cut into her lunging!" I snapped back, knowing how critical this stage in her training was

I just ignored her and worked on a nice sitting trot

Carolyn

I focused myself on Missy and turned her around again.
