I clipped on my spurs and grabbed my crop. I wasn't mean to my horses but they needed to win and if not, there is an issue. I grabbed Vegas' tack from the tack room and quickly tacked her up. She didn't need to be groomed, plus I didn't see a groom near by to do it. I can't believe I'm even tacking her up! I flipped the reins over her head and lead her into the indoor arena. She spooked at the rain over head and I smacked her belly with a crop "Cut it out" I lead her to the center of the arena and hopped on. I walked her to the rail and picked up a fast trot. She was trained to be worked for a long time with no breaks after a sudden start. We needed no warm up and I pushed her into a canter, then a hand gallop. Prior to tacking her up (EW) I set up 10 jumps at 4.2ft (EW x2). I circled her once and pushed her towards the jumps. She started to slow and I gave her a quick smack. She took the first 8 jumps with ease but spooked at the nineth. I circled her, gave her another smack and pushed her again. This time she got the message and finished the course.

I scowled at the girl and what she was doing to her horse. Hadn't she ever heard of KINDNESS?! I patted Pi's neck and led him in, hand on my hip.

I pulled Vegas to an abrupt stop in front of this girl. "I'm going to take those jumps again and then I'll be out of here. They're set at 4 ft , just so you know."

I glanced at my Western saddle. "Sure." I told her. I swung into the saddle and gathered up the 'reins'. Just two red cotton temporary lead ropes clipped to him halter. "I'll just warm him up." I told her. She seemed nice, but the way she treated her horse...it made my skin crawl

I turned Vegas towards the jumps, this time going the other way. She was being so lazy. I dug my spurs into her and she sped up. She was okay on the first 7 jumps but refused the 8th. I pulled her to a stop and she stood tense. I gavee her a smack and asked her to take the jump, no circle. I'm sick of this refusing. She tried to back up, but I ddin't let her. She eventually took the last couple jumps and I halted her immediatly. I cantered her over to the girl "I'm new here and I was wondering where I could assign a groom to cool her down?"

I led Tassel, my beautiful palimino quarter horse into the indoor arena. I already saw two girls working their horses and I mounted up nervously determined to prove myself to them. Tassel pricked her ears at the new girl and horse. I looked straight ahead and trotted Tassel towards the wall flexing her neck as he settled into a bouncy trot that I easily posted to.

Vegas go scared of the other girl's horse and shied. I gave her a smack and a kicked her into a tight circle before returning to the girl's side "Sorry, she's being awful. Might be time for retirement to the breeding barn"

I raised an eyebrow. "There are two grooms, Mike and Doug. In my opinion I like Mike better. BUT, then only care for your horses after morning lessons. Every other time you have to do it yourself. It forms a better bond with your horse." I told her. Smacking her horse instead of praising, and not even wanting to CARE for her!?

I tried not to gasp. I had never seen anyone be so MEAN to their horse! " She looks perfectly fine. She just needs time a patience." I explained slowly.

"Is there anyone I could pay to do it? Money isn't an issue" I said to the western girl. To the other girl, i replied "She hasn't acted like this before and she's been to many other stables. She adjusts well to change. Plus, I'm gonna give her another chance at the next show. If she does well, she'll stay at CCA. If not, she'll go home, try being a mother, be spoiled, and if that fails, she'll either be sold to a younger competiter or become a lesson horse at home. I think she's a wonderful mare and I want to use her to what she can handle best."
