I walked into the arena with Dixie. I looked around and saw no one. I patted her neck, speaking softly to her as I moved toward her back. I put pressure on it with my hands and easily swung over her back. Still holding the lead rope, I guided her around the arena. "Good girl!" I praised her softly, careful not to spook her. I had been working with her at Wellington, and she has improved a lot. Before, I wasn't able to ride her, and now I finally was!

I spotted Bella and groaned. I knew she would mess up Dixie, since I found out Dixie was blind at Wellington, not here

Dixie spooked as she heard her horse pick up speed. "Easy girl, easy." I soothed her, patting her neck. I moved her to the middle

I slid off of Dixie's back and looked into her eyes. The cataracts had spread a bit more, making her momre blind. I felt a tear come to my eye, but I blinked it back. I buried my face in her mane and held her neck

I looked at her, but didn't react. Okay, maybe I did. "You okay?" I asked. My first horsehad gone blind, so I knew the feeling.

"I'm sorry." I said, my voice cracking. That just made me think of HOW she could have died. And that made me think of what could happen to Dixie. And that made me NOT want to think. Which made me want to be a dumb blonde that had no mind. But only for a moment
