Hey!" I opened the stall door to a rearing Banner, his eyes soft, and his ears forward. "You are that excited to see me?" I asked laughing as he came down and nudged my cheek. "Come on dude. We got tryouts." I said leading him to the padded cross ties. I gave him him a bath and dried him off. Eventually when he was dry, and didn't smell like wet dog. (or wet horse) I tacked him up, heading to the arena. The bath had taken about an hour, but we still had a lot of time to spare.
Once I mounted I saw a jumping course set up for the tryouts. I took a deep breathe. The jumps where nothing I couldn't handle. Only three or four feet. But I still hated tryouts. They made me really nervous. I quickly warmed him up. Soon Mr.Conner came in and told us that the jumps in the middle of the arena where for us.
I trotted Banner again and let him quicken a few steps, then cantered sitting easily to his nice gait, then I brought him back to a walk and got him to canter from a walk. "good boy." I praised cantering him around a few laps before gathering him and pointing him to the red planks. Banner suddenly realized I wanted him to jump the jump, and gathered himself some momentum. I rose into a two point as Banner rose to his back feet, tucking his front knees in. His neck rose almost to my chest, but not there yet. Perfect. We soured over the jump, and I leaned back when he descended and gravity took over. He canter on the right lead after the jump, and I make a 20 meter circle, making sure to get deep into the corners of the arena. I sat back, as we gathered for the wall. Banner quickened his pace to get momentum for the wall, and I rose into a perfect two point, and Banner reared high over the jump, his neck coming to my chest. Then fell, as once again, gravity won over us. The next jump, about 4 strides ahead of us was a roll back jump, that was easy to sour over. "Good boy, Banner." I praised again as we entered a triple. They where just standards, each time rising until the last one, 4 ft. I rose and fell back into the saddle after the jump: two point, leanback, two point, lean back, two point, lean back told myself (that fast) as we jumped the jumps easily. I let Banner canter a few strides before bring him back down to a trot. Then walk. "Good, Kacie. Now how about some dressage?" Mr.Conner asked. I nodded as he told me the course while Mike and Frank took the jumps down. The course was simple. Two twenty meter circles. (Canter Piroette E to A, dressage trot A cross over X to H, and spanish Walk twenty meter circle, back to X halt.) I nodded and did so Mr.Conner watching intently. I took a deep breathe after I exited the little set up for dressage. Mr.Conner nodded. and I waited for my score.
