*I'll watch the night turn light-blue But it's not the same without you~ Pour me a heavy dose of A T M O S P H E R E* I had been here for three days now and I was only just now getting around to seeing Duke. It was strange not having anybody to exercise him for me, that was the thing that I did miss about being home, somebody could actually take care of my horse. Oakridge was so different from here, all what I had to do was show up and my Duke would be saddled and everything. It didn't work that way here and I wasn't entirely sure that I liked it personally, but that was just me. Duke was a good horse though, and I'm sure he is worth more than any of the horses here.
Putting the last of the eventing grease over his legs, and making a face at doing so, after all,t hat stuff was disgusting, I figured that Duke and I were ready to hit the cross country course, and maybe some of the land further out if time allowed it. Quickly pouring some of my antibacterial soap on my hands, I lathered them up before grabbing the bridle and threw it on Duke. We were matching today, him with with a light purple pad and me with the cross country vest. It wasn't long before I mounted and we set out towards the cross country course. Already, Duke was alert and glancing around as if a leaf could come out and attack him.
It only made me roll my eyes, he was such a high strung horse it was rather ridiculous. At every sound, he seemed to twitch slightly, and I could feel him move his weight from underneath me, but I kept a strong leg and moved him forward at the walk. Playing around with the reins in my hands which caused the bit to move around in his mouth, Duke slowly started to pay more attention to that then the rest of the world around him. Up ahead of us now, I could see the course, it was bigger than I really remembered but I didn't care, Duke could handle anything, after all, it had been in his blood line.
Coming to a halt, I made him stand at the starting line and already he was fidgeting again, ready to get going. After making him wait a minute longer, I gave him his head. From the dead halt, he slipped right into a quick canter before easing into the gallop now as we headed towards the first jump. Counting my strides, I squeezed him and he hopped right over it, not even touching the jump with his legs as we sailed. Hitting the ground, we went towards the next one and had the same success before we headed into the woods now.
Shade covered us from the branches of the trees, even in the summer time, the woods had an eerie feel to them, but I didn't let that bother me at all. Curving around the corners, I made him slow down a little and Duke tried to fight me, tossing his head but I made him listen before giving him his head again and we flew over the next three jumps. Everything was going perfectly, I nearly felt like I was flying and he didn't even seem to be acting hot. The next jump was huge, and it looked odd and it also lead downwards. Beneath me, Duke was having second thoughts, "Don't you dare run out on me," I growled and gave him a light tap with the crop, giving him motivation.
There was still hesitation, but he took it now, his back legs hitting it as we slid over the jump. There was a rustling of leaves and a flock of birds too flight, the sound startling Duke and a long with a muddle ground, his hooves gave way and we slipped. Without warning, I was tossed from the saddle and flew, Duke tumbling down after me. I hit the ground, getting the wind knocked out of me but I still tried to move as I saw my horse coming down, his weight coming down full force on my leg and then rolling off it. Pain surged through my leg and I buried my face into my arm, trying to not scream.
Scrambling up, Duke was on his feet now, but he was spooked as ever. The whites of his eyes showing as he looked around wildly, breathing loudly as the reins hung limp from his mouth. I managed to take off my helmet and toss it aside. After a moment, I tried to move my leg but pain just shot up it and I managed to stifle a cry, "Duke, come here!" but he wouldn't listen, he danced about in one spot with no intention of coming over until he got over what happened. I was still shaking though, and I was still in pain, our only hope now was if somebody decided to take the cross country course that day as well, "Is anybody out there?!" I screamed, glancing around but all what I heard was the stillness of the air and my mind wanting to black out.

Ethan I took Faith out for some light cross country work. We had skipped a few jumps and at the moment were just jumping the simple things. When Faith heard a noise she came to a dead stop and looked around alert for something to jump out at her. I slipped off her back and lead her around a bend towards the commotion. As I turned the bend I saw a horse quivering and dancing around nervously. ThenI noticed the girl on the ground. I thought as quick as I could and grabbed the loose horse's rains. "Are you okay? What happened?" I asked quickly. My new zealand accent still noticeable.

*I'll watch the night turn light-blue But it's not the same without you~ Pour me a heavy dose of A T M O S P H E R E* The woods were dead silent, I wasn't sure if there was anybody else out there but us. God, that would be the case for us. My leg was throbbing, yet I still tried to move it. Although, that had probably been the stupidest thing to do. Pain shot up my leg and I cringed, biting down on my lip to concentrate the pain somewhere else. Glancing over towards Duke now, he was still edge and glancing around wildly. He wasn't going to be any help to me. Suddenly though, his head turned towards something, ears twitching about, "Is somebody there?!" I called out now, hoping it would be some form of help.
No sooner than I asked though, a horse and rider came around the bend. He was already on the ground though, must have heard our commotion or something. A loud snort escaped Duke and he flared his nostrils, taking a step away from them. Before he could bolt though, the boy grabbed hold of his reins. I noticed Duke tug a little but he managed to obey for which I was grateful for. When asked if I was okay, it took everything in my power to not snap, "My leg, it hurts if I try to move it," I informed him now, realizing that he actually had an accent, "But, we were going over the hill jump and a flock of birds flew. It just starled Duke and he freaked, plus he slipped on the mud." And that was just the short story.

Ethan I stood frozen for a second not sure exactly what to do. Holding the two horses in own hand I squatted down next to the girl. "Do you think You can get up with my help?" I asked.

I honestly couldn't blame him for it. I would be too if I came onto a scene like this. After a moment, he was squatting down right next to me, "I think...I can," although, I wasn't entirely sure. Right now I was just hoping my leg wasn't shattered. Shifting around, I winced a few times but managed to keep it together and took a deep breath, "Okay, I think I'm ready."

Ethan I sighed. "No never mind, your just going to hurt yourself more. I carefully picked her up bridalish style and carefully placed her on faith's back. "Im going to walk you back to the barn and then get you to the infirmary."

But thankfully, I managed not to. After all, he was probably the only person out on the cross country course today, and something was telling me that I had been lucky that he had even heard me, "Hey, I can walk just-" but I cut myself off. Totally startled by his next move as he just scooped me up in his arms and then right away, placed me on his horse. I felt my face grow hot from the close contact with this total stranger, thankfully though, I don't think it showed and I just sat still on his horse. She was incredibly calm, his horse, I was surprised she didn't feed off of Bentley's nerves, "Thanks...um...what's your name?"

For not introducing his name right off the bat? Honestly, I didn't think I was dying from it. Ethan though, it was a nice name, and his accent really came out strong now, rolling over with his name, "Well....thanks Ethan," I managed now. Wait, I should probably introduce myself now too, only made sense after demanding his name. It was weird being nice to somebody though...sorta like how it was weird that he was being nice to me, didn't happen a lot, "I'm Noelle by the way..."

Something about it felt so natural, and honestly, I hadn't smiled in a while. Granted, it's not like I liked a lot of people here anyways, clashing heads with Jess Drenan was probably not the wisest move, but I wasn't about to let that girl get the better of me, "Yeah....you're right. But hey, at least you're a hero for the day," and of course, I looked less than glamorous thanks to Duke.
