Ever since my mom's funeral, I had basically hid in the apartment. I just didn't have the energy to do anything. Sometimes, Rowan and I would talk, but it mostly consisted of mumbles and small talk. For some reason, I woke up this morning and decided that I had enough of being cooped up. The mayor said he and the family were home all week and I could come over whenever I wanted, so that's what I did. Before leaving, I got Iris from daycare and left a message with the receptionist at Rowan's office where we both were and to meet us there later. After a half hour drive, I rolled up to the huge mansion and carried Iris in. We had lunch, then I sat on the living room floor with Iris, letting the change of scenery distract me.

While I was on an errand I got a call from the receptionist letting me know that Lucas had picked up Iris and where he went. I decided to finish the errand I was on then head over. I got to the mayors house and knocked on the door. One of the girls let me in and told me where Lucas was. I walked into the other room and smiled softly at the two of them. "What made you come out here?" I asked walking in. |

I shrugged. "Just wanted to get out of the apartment." I said. Iris was next to me, playing with my prosthetic leg. She liked to throw things at it and here the clank. This time, she through a block she was playing with and giggled. "How was work?" I asked.

I nodded and just then the mayor came in from the kitchen. "How about you two just go home and relax tonight? We can watch Iris." He said, picking her up with a smile. I looked at Rowan to make sure it was ok with her.

I bit my lip, unsure about leaving Iris for so long. "I don't..." I looked over at Lucas who was watching me. and I nodded. "Okay. I'll write some things out." I said.

I nodded. "We can come back and get her later tonight if that makes you feel better." I promised. I stood up slowly and offered her my hand.

I nodded and drove for like 10 minutes. Finally, we stopped at a cozy bar with low lighting and live music. We got seated and I gently put my arm around her. "How's work going?" I asked, wanting to think about her and not myself.
