These past few weeks have been crazy; from working to Dr. appointments with Mary, to everything in between. We hadn't had much time together lately, so I decided to stop by her store. But instead of seeing the usual stream of customers coming in and out, it was surrounded by police cars. The entrance was barricaded by tape. Instantly I started worrying and ducked under the tape. "Excuse me miss- you can't be here. The store is closed." An officer said to me shortly. I didn't recognize any of them, so it must be a different station than Mason's. "No, I'm not here to shop. What's going on?" I asked urgently. "We can't tell you. You have to leave." He said, putting a hand on my shoulder and leading me out. I stopped and stood my ground. "No. Marry is carrying my baby. She's our surrogate mother." I said. Tears filled my eyes and he bit his lip, feeling bad. For a minute he left to go talk to someone and came back. "The Millers aren't here- we don't know where they are. They've been stealing from bank accounts for almost a year- have acquired over 5 million dollars. Something must have happened and they ran. We think they left the country." He said. Nothing he said stopped the panic. Shakily, I called Mason.
