I smiled. "Good to meet ya, Chase." my dad said as he kissed my mom on the cheek and walked over to the grill to flip some burgers. I sat down next to Chase and smiled.

I took a bite of hotdog and jumped up, looking at the fire-flies that were like twinkling stars. Tears prickled at my eyes. I ran inside and grabbed a random amount of old Jelly Jars and ran back out, kicking my flip-flops off as I ran into the darkness.

I looked at Mike blankly. "Well then." I said, smiling at everyone. "Let's let her have some time alone." I said, remembering now that the last time she ever spoke a word to her sister was on a night like this one.

I started panicing now. I was kind of scared to be around them without aly. But I didnt go after her.

I sat on a bench near the pond, Max's head on my lap. In my hand was a jar of fireflies. I got up and Max followed, and I wiped the tears from my face with my shirt.

I trudged up the steps, ignoring the glances from my brothers as I walked inside the house with Max. I walked down to the den and opened the door, a smile lighting up my flushed face as I saw Maya and her ten pups.

I smiled and knelt down next to Maya. "Hey, baby girl." I said as I rubbed her head. "Awwww" I said as I heard her puppies whimpering.

"Let's go see the pups!" I said to Chase and the guys as I got up.

I leaned up and noticed how one on the puppies wasn't feeding as well as the others. "Dad...?" I asked worriedly.

"Aw, he's the runt of the litter." I said as I touched the pups head gently.
